PEDRI co-created the Good Practice Standards to support those working with the public in the data research to address key barriers to effective public involvement and engagement.

The PEDRI Pledge outlines how the adoption of the PEDRI Good Practice Standards would change the involvement and engagement experience for the public.

Organisations and teams who want to adopt or are currently adopting the PEDRI Good Practice Standards in their own work. 

By signing up to the PEDRI Pledge. You will: 

  • Support the public to make informed choices about involvement and engagement in data research  
  • Show the public what a difference their lived experiences, knowledge and opinions make and how it will shape the research 
  • Encourage the public to be part of data research with professionals and researchers working together in a safe, accessible and inclusive space 

The PEDRI Pledge aligns with all seven of the PEDRI Good Practice Standards. Each section of the Pledge aligns with one of the Standards:

  • Equity, diversity and inclusion > To work in partnership with the public where all voices matter and differences are respected 
  • Data literacy and training > To learn and grow together with the public, supporting each other as we explore data research   
  • Two-way communication > To have open conversations with the public and learn from their lived experiences   
  • Transparency > To be clear about our plans and share decision making with the public   
  • Mutual benefit > To show the public how and when they have made a difference to our work   
  • Effective involvement and engagement > To engage and involve the public in our work and explore their ideas for change   
  • Creating a culture of involvement and engagement > That our organisation adopts a way of working where everyone understands and respects the importance and value of working with the public 

Yes. We will contact you once a year to find out how you are adopting the PEDRI Good Practice Standards in your own work.

An Evaluation Tool will be launched in late 2025 to provide teams with a structured approach to monitoring their public involvement and engagement activities that aligns with the Good Practice Standards. Completion of this tool will support our evaluation of your commitment to the Pledge. 

You will have the opportunity to share how you have acted on your commitment to the Pledge by writing a blog or story involving the public which we will share on the PEDRI website. 

You will receive: 

  • Social media templates 
  • Virtual sticker 
  • Good Practice Standards Evaluation tool (available from late 2025) 

At PEDRI, we will: 

  • Share your commitment to the Pledge via our social media 
  • Add your team or organisational logo to the Pledge webpage
