Research experience: Yes

Notes:

O5BM has increasingly engaged in research and data-related activity as part of its evolution into a community-embedded preventative health and early detection infrastructure.

This includes:

  • Participation in public involvement and engagement in research (PPIE) activities
  • Collaboration with NHS clinicians and academic partners
  • Delivery of structured community programmes generating behavioural and health engagement data
  • Use of pre/post evaluation tools, participation tracking, and Social Return on Investment (SROI) modelling

In addition, we operate within a broader community engagement ecosystem, working with partner networks and place-based organisations (including community venues and delivery partners) to extend reach and support engagement across different populations and settings.

Type of involvement: Co-production

Guidance: We encorage researchers to:

• Engage communities early in the research design
process, not after key decisions have been made
• Allocate appropriate resource and funding for
community engagement
• Work with organisations that have existing trust
and consistent engagement, rather than
attempting to build relationships from scratch
• Prioritise clear communication, avoiding overly
technical language
• Ensure feedback loops, so communities
understand how their input influences outcomes
• Recognise that engagement is ongoing and
relational, not transactional.

Community Connect Researcher Guidance

Read this guidance before contacting a community about public involvement and engagement opportunities.

This guidance outlines how to approach community groups respectfully and effectively and what information to provide. It provides a checklist for researchers to go through before communication first takes place.
