PEDRI are hosting an online roundtable on ethical public involvement and engagement in data research and statistics.
The team are currently undertaking a project titled the Ethics of Public Engagement in Data Research and Statistics. The project responds to the growing recognition that ethical considerations for public involvement and engagement remain underdeveloped in data science and statistics, particularly where public contributors are involved in shaping research and informing decisions outside formal ethical governance frameworks.
The project aims to identify and define the key ethical issues associated with public engagement and involvement in data research and statistics, and to consider how these should inform the PEDRI Good Practice Standards as well as produce actionable recommendations for the data research and statistics sector.
As the first phase of this work, we are convening an online roundtable that will bring together researchers, public contributors, engagement professionals, and experts working in this space to explore these issues from a range of perspectives.
The presentations at the roundtable will serve as conversation starters, each followed by a facilitated discussion exploring the practical, ethical, and policy implications of the issues raised.
The roundtable will take place on Wednesday 26 August, 12-3pm, and will be held online.
