Public Involvement Lead | Cancer Research UK

Matt leads Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) at Cancer Research UK across its Research Data Strategy, a role he’s been in since 2022. This includes managing a large community of people doing PPIE roles across data and AI and embedding good practice within cancer research. During this time Matt has also led the refresh of the Cancer Research UK Involvement Strategy.

Prior to this Matt was Head of Involvement and Volunteering at Versus Arthritis and spent over 8 years leading involvement in research at Alzheimer’s Society, which included an 18 month secondment leading the entire involvement function. Matt set up the Charities Research Involvement Group in 2013 and has been active reviewer for the Research Involvement and Engagement Journal, as well as publishing and speaking at national and international conferences.

Matt is passionate about raising standards of involvement and equipping people with the tools and resources to do involvement well. Outside of his work as a PPIE professional Matt also uses his own lived experiences in a personal capacity as a PPIE representative for other organisations and projects.
